Techstars Foundation and New York Business Plan Competition Announce Partnership

NEW PALTZ, NY — Techstars has selected the New York Business Plan Competition (NYBPC) to be one of three programs globally to support in the first quarter of 2022, matching 20% of every dollar raised by March 31, 2022, up to $25,000. They will provide mentorship and resources for NYBPC participants and leadership. Donations to the NYBPC directly support entrepreneurs. The involvement of Techstars with the NYBPC will help increase the competition prize pool as well as global mentorship for the 2022 competition.

Angela Madura, Director of the Techstars Foundation said, “Techstars and the NYBPC share the same mission: to make innovation and entrepreneurship more accessible and inclusive. Techstars invests in nonprofits that deliver scalable impact for underestimated entrepreneurs, and we’re proud to serve the NYBPC community.”

Techstars is an investment and innovation group connecting entrepreneurs, investors, corporations and city governments. They pioneered their accelerator program model in 2006 and are working toward their vision of a connected global economy of innovation. Techstars is a donor-advised fund managed by the Community Foundation Boulder County.

Since 2010, the NYPBC has served over 500 student teams and provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to pitch their ventures, win prizes and connect with top business mentors. The NYBPC has supported over $150M in economic impact, including follow-on funding for more than 100 startups. The NYBPC is open to students throughout New York State, from community colleges to ivy league schools. NYBPC alumni include SparkCharge, who went on to win the $1M grand prize at the 43North competition and also received an investment on the Shark Tank TV show, and Farther Farms, which raised over $10M in funding to date.

Noa Simons, President and CEO of Upstate Capital Association of New York, the organization that leads the NYBPC, said, “Access to the Techstars network will be a game-changer for the NYBPC and all participants. The access to a much bigger and broader network of mentors, accelerators, and founders will give our participants more value. The alignment of our brands will provide much broader visibility for the NYBPC nationally and globally. The financial support will help us continue to build a stronger, more inclusive, and more impactful platform for emerging entrepreneurs.”
